  1. Things to do in Newcastle this Easter

Ouseburn Farm (1.7 miles away) is a fantastic place for families to visit during the Easter holidays, offering a rare chance to experience springtime on a real working farm right in the heart of Newcastle. Easter coincides with lambing season, so it’s a great opportunity to see newborn lambs and, on selected dates, even take part in supervised lamb feeding sessions.

Beyond special Easter activities, families can explore the farm’s friendly goats, pigs, chickens and rabbits, as well as enjoy all the outdoor space (and hopefully some Spring sunshine!). Entry to the farm is free, with optional bookable experiences available during the holidays. Its welcoming, educational atmosphere and central location make it an ideal Easter outing.

Newcastle’s fantastic family-friendly museums make it easy to plan a Spring day out whatever the weather. At the Great North Museum: Hancock (0.9 miles away), children can explore everything from dinosaurs to Ancient Egypt, with themed trails and drop-in holiday activities often running during the school break. It’s a great place for curious minds, encouraging hands-on discovery and problem-solving through interactive exhibits.

The Discovery Museum (0.5 miles away) is perfect for kids who love to explore and experiment, packed with hands-on science and local history displays. Lego often features heavily! For even more interactive fun, the Life Science Centre (0.7 miles away) blends science with play, offering immersive exhibits and creative activities that keep all ages engaged. Meanwhile, book lovers will adore Seven Stories: The National Centre for Children's Books (1.9 miles away), where storytelling sessions and themed workshops bring children’s literature to life.

Further afield, Beamish Museum (which is well worth a visit to really see how life was lived in decades gone by) will have traditional Easter egg rolling, baking, and other themed activities for the season.

If you’re hoping for sunshine over the Easter break, Newcastle has plenty of brilliant outdoor spaces for families to enjoy. Exhibition Park (0.7 miles away) and Leazes Park (0.4 miles away) offer wide green lawns, playgrounds and lakeside paths, perfect for picnics, games and even DIY Easter egg hunts.

For longer walks or bike rides, Tyne Riverside Country Park (5.8 miles away) and scenic routes along the River Tyne provide space to explore and spot wildlife, while Heaton Park (2 miles away) is another favourite for spending a relaxed spring day.

For families who like to mix fresh air with history, Newcastle Castle (0.9 miles away) lets kids climb medieval towers and enjoy panoramic city views. Meanwhile, older children will find the guided tours at Victoria Tunnel (1.8 miles away) fascinating - an underground adventure packed with local stories.

There’s a plethora of lovely beaches on the North East coast, meaning you’re spoilt for choice if you want to see the sea. Tynemouth is one of those beaches, and perfect to head to on your Easter getaway if the sun is shining.

You can also hop into yet more Easter fun at Tynemouth Park (11 miles away). The park already offers adventure golf, jungle wipeout, pirate quest maze and a boating lake, but for five days in the holidays, there’s an additional and egg-citing Interactive Easter Egg Hunt. You’ll be tasked with helping to find where the Easter Bunny has hidden all the eggs, with a bit of assistance from some much-loved characters. (And we’re sure you might get to keep some of the treats too – and perhaps have an ice cream as well!)

This is usually a sell out event, so we’d recommend booking in advance: https://www.tynemouthpark.com/events/

The Greek Easter Market (0.5 miles away) is a great way to combine family time, culture, artisan crafts and delicious food. Held on 28th March this year, the market brings together stalls serving authentic Greek dishes like souvlaki, baklava and loukoumades, alongside treats kids will love. There’s usually a welcoming atmosphere full of colour, music and community spirit that gives children a taste of something different while parents enjoy the flavours and arts on offer.

Browse interesting stalls, try new foods and soak up the atmosphere. With plenty of space and a relaxed vibe, it suits all ages and appetites - perfect for an Easter outing. Plus kids go free! Head to St John the Baptist Church on Grainger Street (0.5 miles away) to join in the fun.
