Steal this 2-day Glasgow Itinerary for Your Next Visit

Planning a Glasgow city break? This 2-day Glasgow itinerary covers the best of Glasgow, from iconic landmarks and hidden gems to some of the city's must-visit food and drink spots.

I'm Zo, the creator of Glasgow Noms and I have put together this blog to take away the stress from your Glasgow trip. As a Glasgow local, I've built a platform dedicated to showcasing the very best of the city's food, drink and travel scene. What started as a passion project in 2019, has become a trusted source for locals and visitors looking to discover Glasgow's newest openings and local favourites.

Whether it's your first visit or you're returning to explore more, this itinerary will help you make the most of your 48 hours in the city. With Sandman Signature Glasgow Hotel as your base, you'll be perfectly placed to experience it all.

Day 1: Culture, Coffee and West End Wanders

Check in at Sandman Signature Glasgow

Start your Glasgow adventure by checking in at Sandman Signature Glasgow Hotel. Ideally located for exploring the city centre and the West End, the hotel makes the perfect base for discovering Glasgow’s famous sights, vibrant neighbourhoods and hidden corners.

Drop off your bags, settle in and make sure you have some good shoes on as we’re getting plenty of steps in.

Start with coffee at Ottoman Coffee House

Every great itinerary needs a good coffee stop. So, for your morning coffee skip the chains and head to a local independent, and with Ottoman Coffeehouse being around a 10-minute walk from the hotel, it’s a welcoming spot to enjoy a freshly brewed coffee before heading out into the city.

Explore Kelvingrove Park and Museum

Next, make your way to one of Glasgow’s most beautiful green spaces: Kelvingrove Park. Take a relaxed stroll through the park, with riverside paths, open lawns and beautiful views along the River Kelvin.

Just a short walk away, you’ll find Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, one of Glasgow’s must-visit attractions (and one of our personal favourites, alongside the Riverside Museum). With free entry, it’s the perfect addition to any Glasgow itinerary. Inside, you’ll discover everything from world-class art and fascinating exhibitions to natural history displays and iconic pieces.

If you time your visit right, don’t miss the free organ recitals in the Main Hall at lunch time every day. The dramatic setting and incredible acoustics make it a unique Glasgow experience:

Timings:
Monday–Saturday: 1:00pm–1:30pm
Sunday: 3:00pm–3:45pm

A little bit of culture, history and music, all completely free.

Discover Hidden Lane

After soaking up some culture, head to Hidden Lane in Finnieston, one of Glasgow's best-kept secrets. It's easy to miss, but once you find it you'll discover a colourful courtyard packed with independent studios, local makers and creative businesses.

Browse vintage treasures at Rag and Bone Man Antiques, pick up handmade ceramics from Spin Pottery, create a bespoke charm at Nixie Studio or stop for tacos before continuing your adventure. It's the perfect spot to experience a more creative side of Glasgow.

Day Two: Shopping, Markets and Creative Glasgow

Lunch break: local Glasgow favourites

By now, you’ll have worked up an appetite and being in Finnieston you are spoiled for choice with award-winning restaurants like Ox and Finch and Unalome in the area. Glasgow has plenty of brilliant lunch options, whether you’re looking for fresh seafood, relaxed café food or something quick and casual.

In this area for seafood lovers, Crabshakk is a West End favourite, serving up fresh dishes in a relaxed setting. Alternatively, grab something from Piece for a quick and easy lunch stop.

Wander around the University of Glasgow

Continue your West End adventure with a visit to the University of Glasgow. Take some time to wander the historic campus, admire its stunning Gothic architecture and take in the atmosphere of one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

Be sure to visit the famous cloisters, whose dramatic Gothic architecture has made them a favourite with Harry Potter fans.

Stroll down Byres Road

Loads of choice within minutes of the hotel

From the university, head towards Byres Road, one of the liveliest streets in the West End. Filled with independent shops, cafés and bars, it’s the perfect place for a relaxed afternoon wander. Pop in to Minted for some ice cream, then continue towards the Glasgow Botanic Gardens.

The gardens are a peaceful escape from the city, with beautiful glasshouses and plenty of space to explore.

Dinner and a Cosy Evening

When evening arrives, head to Five March for a memorable meal. Known for its creative seasonal menu and relaxed atmosphere, it’s a great place to end your first day, and make sure to get the roast potatoes with aioli, you won’t be disappointed!

Then take a leisurely walk back towards Sandman Signature Glasgow Hotel, taking in the city views along the way. Once you’re back, it’s time to relax and recharge for another day of exploring.

Day 2: Shopping, Markets and Creative Glasgow

Coffee and pastries at Devil of Brooklyn

Once again start your day off local and head to Devil of Brooklyn on West George Street, less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel, sit in for a coffee and a pastry or grab and go for another packed day. It’s the perfect morning stop before exploring Glasgow city centre.

Note: Devil of Brooklyn is also a great stop for cocktails in the evening.

Explore Buchanan Street

Next, head to Buchanan Street, Glasgow’s shopping destination. From high street favourites to impressive architecture, it’s a must-see for anyone spending a weekend in Glasgow.

Take your time browsing the shops, enjoy the atmosphere and don’t forget to look up. The city centre’s Victorian architecture is part of what makes Glasgow so special.

Visit the GOMA

After shopping, make your way to the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) to see the famous Duke of Wellington statue.

No one knows who put the cone there or why, but it has become an iconic symbol of our city. Located right in town, this free gallery showcases contemporary artwork and is a great stop for art lovers.

Weekend bonus: Barras Market

Visiting Glasgow at the weekend? The Barras Market is a must for your itinerary. This iconic market, which is open every Saturday and Sunday 10-4pm, is a Glasgow institution, with independent traders selling everything from vintage finds and collectibles to unique gifts.

In recent years it has also become a great destination for food and drink spots as well, so you are truly spoiled for choice. You can see some vendor interviews from the Barras here to give you a flavour of what to expect.

It’s one of the best places to experience the city’s personality and pick up something memorable from your trip.

Discover Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre

Finish your Glasgow adventure with something completely different at Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre. This hidden gem features moving mechanical sculptures and imaginative artwork, offering a fascinating experience you won’t find anywhere else.

After two days of exploring, head back to Sandman Signature Glasgow Hotel to grab your bags and enjoy a comfortable stop before your journey home.
