  1. Things to do in Aberdeen this Easter

Codona’s (1.2 miles away) is an Aberdeen institution, having been operating in the city for over 55 years. And it’s just as popular now as it was then - it was even awarded the accolade of 'Best Day Out' at the Scottish Entertainment Awards 2025.

One great thing is there’s inside and outside entertainment, so if you need to dodge showers, it’s not a problem. This huge amusement and entertainment complex has rides, 3-level karting, arcade games, bowling, adventure golf, playgrounds, laser tag and more. Dare you try the Dead Man’s Drop Tower?

There’s plenty of food and drink options too. You definitely won’t struggle to fill a full day there, whatever your ages!

Rainy day indoor activity? Look no further than Linx Ice Arena (1.5 miles away). Located right on Aberdeen’s Beach Promenade, this is the main ice skating venue in the north‑east of Scotland run by Sport Aberdeen — just a short trip from Sandman Signature Aberdeen Hotel & Spa.

The Aberdeen Science Centre (1.1 miles away) is well worth a visit for interactive science exhibits and demonstrations that spark curiosity in children and grown-ups alike. It’s a great indoor choice when Spring weather is unreliable!

And over easter, on 2nd April, you can join in with a special Spring workshop. It’s ideal for beginners, children, and plant lovers. An expert team will help you create two special plant arrangements to take home. What better reminder of your holiday than a Marimo moss ball jar and a succulent garden? Places are limited so book yours here.

There’s lots of wonderful places within Aberdeen to have a picnic – and that’s without heading out into the wonderful countryside of the Cairngorms National Park.

The scenic Duthie Park (1.6 miles away) & David Welch Winter Gardens (1.7 miles away) is spread over acres of green space beside the River Dee. It’s perfect for picnics, playtime, walks and flower-filled indoor gardens – another good option if you need to dodge a shower! It’s also super family-friendly and lovely if you want a gentle outdoor day out with plenty to explore.

Hazlehead Park (3 miles away) could be another option. It’s a large public park with woodland walks, play areas and Scotland’s oldest maze, first planted in 1935. There’s even a pet corner (mini zoo) with animals for children to meet. If they’re lucky they may see some Spring-born babies! All in all it’s ideal for a spring daytime adventure.

Over Easter week the University of Aberdeen (1.7 miles away) is running family-friendly free tours at the museum led by student guides - great for curious kids who are interested in animals, nature and science.

The free-entry Zoology Museum at the University of Aberdeen is filled with hundreds of fascinating specimens from around the world. It’s one of the only large zoology collections in north-east Scotland and is a big hit with families. Displays include huge skeletons (like whales, dolphins and elephants); taxidermy and preserved specimens of reptiles, fish, birds, mammals and more. Accessible for tall, it’s so much fun that that children won’t even notice they’re doing some out-of-school learning!

Slots book up early, so be sure to book here.

Just a short walk from the city centre is an award-winning beach (1.5 miles away) – so as Spring weather starts to bring some sunshine, it’s the perfect place to head to. Make sandcastles in the golden sands, or brave the sea and get your toes wet! If you’re into beach-combing, why not scour the coastline for sparkling sea glass and shells.

You can also do some wildlife spotting. At the northern end of the promenade, you may catch a glimpse of bottlenose dolphins, seals, waders and seabirds. There’s boat trips you can take too, to get a closer look. Bring some binoculars and do a spot of birdwatching, looking out for oystercatchers, curlews, kittiwakes and terns.

An ice cream or some fish and chips is the perfect finish to the day!

A Christmas panto is a firm tradition – but why shouldn’t they be enjoyed at other times of the year? Well with an Easter visit to Aberdeen you can head over the rainbow with a panto performance of The Wizard of Oz at The Tivoli Theatre (0.7 miles away).

See favourites like the Tin Man, the cowardly lion and of course Dorothy and Toto as they follow the Yellow Brick Road, meeting some wicked witches and munchkins along the way. And you’re guaranteed to have quite a few laughs as they travel along. You can book here.
